Deck your Halls with Green

Deck your halls with green this year and be right in step with the Pantone Color of the Year 2013 selection. It is widely known green is my favorite color. There isn't a green I don't love. I've always loved that it brings the outdoors inside. I'm so drawn to green that I've often wondered if it's not due in part to my Irish heritage. Either way, jump on the emerald green trend and add a blast of green to your home with a green pillow, tablecloth, napkin, or ornament. Nature is our greatest source of inspiration for color, so take a walk outside, look around and be inspired.

I never intended to become a designer. I studied to be a journalist, but I found myself constantly being asked by friends to consult on design, to do drapery and such. People would always ask, “Mary, what you think about this color? Does this wallpaper go with my furniture? What can I do with this room?”

Design was something that I was drawn into because the world came to me. I found I had a skill for it, a natural ability. All the things I enjoyed came together when I worked in the design field: I love people, I love creativity, I love art.

Philosophy

My philosophy is that design is a partnership. I do not push my vision or rely on trends. I interview the client to clarify their needs. I find out what they like and what they don’t like. I observe the colors they like to wear, because that is a great clue. I introduce new ideas they perhaps haven’t considered. My goal is to help my clients create a home that is truly functional, a place to live, not a museum.

For me success is having client relationships that endure for 30 years or more. It is hearing that people are happy in their homes for years and years, yet they give me a call when they are ready for a change. It’s all about the relationships.
